How to change the preset UD IMAP server directory on a Windows 2000/XP computer

Because the version of Mozilla available from the UDeploy site is customized for UD, some of the preference settings have been set to remain fixed.

If you try to change one of these settings using the Mozilla Preferences feature, the change will take effect only during that work session. When you restart Mozilla, the setting will return to the original.

You can change the setting to take effect even after Mozilla is restarted, but to do so, you must manually edit a file called user.js.

One of these settings is the IMAP server directory, which in the UD version is set to "mail/." Follow these steps to change this setting:

Open Windows Explorer.
Working in the left-side column of the Explorer window, click the following path to the user.js file:

C:\Documents and Settings\[Log-in Name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\[Mozilla_Profile]
Double-click the xxxxxxxx.slt folder.
Working in the right-side column of the window, right-click on the file named user.js (or the file named user).
Click Edit. You will see a text file open in a text-editing window.
Insert a // (a double slash) and a space in front of the line coded for the IMAP server directory. (The line is close to the bottom of the file, so you may need to scroll down to locate it.)
To change the IMAP server directory, the edited line should read:

// user_pref("mail.server.server1.server_sub_directory", "mail/");
From the File menu, click Save.
From the File menu, click Exit.
Close Windows Explorer.
Open the Mozilla program.
Open the Mozilla Mail program
From the Edit menu, click Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings.
Click Server Settings.
Click Advanced. In the Server Name field, type the name of the IMAP server directory you want Mozilla to use.
Click OK.
Close the Mozilla program. (The changes will not take effect until the program is restarted).
Start the Mozilla program. The name of the IMAP server directory will now be IMAP server directory Mozilla will use until you change it.
