How to move from Netscape 7.x to Mozilla 1.7.x
on a Windows 2000/XP computer

To move from Netscape 7.x to Mozilla 1.7.x, you must follow these steps in the order in which they appear:

  1. Install Mozilla 1.7.x and set your computer to view all files.
  2. Move your Netscape 7.x profile to the desktop.
  3. Set up your UDelNet e-mail settings.
  4. Transfer your Netscape 7.x e-mail, address books, and bookmark files.

Install Mozilla 1.7.x and set your computer to view all files
  1. Install Mozilla 1.7.x.
  2. Your computer must be set to view all files for you to make this change. The default setting for this option on a Windows 2000/XP computer is off. You can use Windows Explorer to turn this option on. Open Windows Explorer as you normally do or by following these steps:
    1. Click Start | (All) Programs.
    2. Click Accessories.
    3. Click Windows Explorer.
    4. From the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    5. Click the View tab.
    6. Double-click the folder labeled Hidden files and folders.
    7. Click the radio button in front of the Show hidden files and folders option.
    8. Click OK.


Move your Netscape 7.x profile to the desktop
  1. Click Start | (All) Programs.
  2. Click Accessories.
  3. Click Windows Explorer.
  4. In the left-hand column of the Windows Explorer window, click the following path to the Mozilla folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\[Log-in Name]\Application Data\Mozilla

  1. With the right mouse button, click the Mozilla folder.
  2. Click Cut.
  3. Minimize the Windows Explorer window.
  4. On a blank area of the desktop, click the right mouse button.
  5. Click Paste. The Mozilla folder should now appear on the desktop.

Set up your UDelNet e-mail settings
  1. On the desktop you will see a desktop icon—Mozilla 1.7.x Navigator—which looks similar to the following:

  1. Double-click the Mozilla 1.7.x Navigator icon. A splash screen that identifies Mozilla will appear for a few seconds. The Mozilla browser will then open with UD's home page displayed.
  2. In the lower-left corner of the Mozilla window, you will see the Component Bar, which looks similar to the following:

    The Component Bar allows you to switch easily between Mozilla tasks (e.g., from Mail to Navigator or from Navigator to Composer).

  3. Click the "envelope" icon. This icon represents the Mail program (second icon from the left). You will see the Account Wizard dialog box, which looks similar to the following:

  4. Verify that the Email account radio button is selected (contains a black dot).
  5. Click Next.
  6. You will see the Identity dialog box, which looks similar to the following:

  7. In the Your Name field, type your name (e.g., John Smith).
  8. In the Email Address field, type your e-mail address (e.g., smith@udel.edu).
  9. Click Next. You will see the Server Information dialog box, which looks similar to the following:

  10. Click the radio button in front of IMAP. The black dot should now be in the IMAP radio button.
  11. In the Incoming Server field, type

    mail.udel.edu

    The dialog box should now look similar to the following:

  12. Click Next. The fields in this dialog box should contain your correct UDelNet ID (e.g., smith).
  13. Click Next. You will see the Account Name dialog box, which looks similar to the following:

    By default, the Account Name field will be filled in with UDelNet_ID@udel.edu (e.g., smith@udel.edu).

  14. Click Next. You will see the Congratulations! dialog box, which looks similar to the following:

  15. Click Finish. You will see a dialog box that requests your UDelNet account password.
  16. Type your password.
  17. Press ENTER. You will see the Mozilla Mail window, which contains the following elements:
  • E-mail folders in your account appear in the left-most column of the window.
  • E-mail messages appear in the top-right section of the window.
  • The UDaily home page will appear in the bottom-right section of the window.
  1. Close the Mozilla program.

Transfer your Netscape 7.x e-mail, address books, and bookmarks
  1. From the Mozilla folder you copied to your desktop, click the Mozilla\Profiles\[Log-in Name]\xxxxxxxx.slt folder.
  2. Hold down the CONTROL key, and click the Mail folder, the abook.mab file, and the bookmarks.html file.
  3. From the Edit menu, click Copy.
  4. In the left-hand column of the window, click the following path to the xxxxxxxx.slt folder:

    C:\Documents and Settings\[Log-in Name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\[Profile Name]

  5. Click once on the xxxxxxxx.slt folder.
  6. From the Edit menu, click Paste.
  7. Click Yes to All at the prompt asking to replace the files.
  8. Open the Mozilla program. Your e-mail, bookmarks, and address book should now be transferred to Mozilla.
