In order to work with UD's new e-mail system, you'll need to be sure that your Netscape e-mail software is using mail.udel.edu as the incoming and outgoing mail servers.

Directions for Netscape 4.7x

IMAP Directions

  1. Open Netscape Communicator or Messenger.

  2. Go to the Edit menu. Select Preferences.

  3. In the Category pane on the left, click the plus sign next to Mail & Newsgroups.

  4. Select Mail Servers.

  5. Select the Incoming Mail Server. Click the Delete button. The Incoming Mail Servers window should now be blank.

  6. Click the Add button.

  7. In the Server Name field, type
    mail.udel.edu

  8. Verify that IMAP Server has been selected in the Server Type field.

  9. Type your UDelNet ID in the field.

  10. Click the IMAP tab. Verify that Mark it as deleted has been selected.

  11. Click the Advanced tab. In the IMAP server directory field, type
    mail/

  12. Uncheck the Show only subscribed folders checkbox.

  13. Click OK.

  14. Verify that the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server field says
    mail.udel.edu

  15. Click OK.

  16. Restart Netscape Communicator.

Even though we recommend that you configure Netscape to treat mail.udel.edu as an IMAP server, some users prefer to treat mail.udel.edu as a POP server.

POP Directions

  1. Open Netscape Communicator or Messenger.

  2. Go to the Edit menu. Select Preferences.

  3. In the Category pane on the left, click the plus sign next to Mail & Newsgroups.

  4. Select Mail Servers.

  5. Select the Incoming Mail Server. Click the Delete button. The Incoming Mail Servers window should now be blank.

  6. Click the Add button.

  7. In the Server Name field, type
    mail.udel.edu

  8. In the Server Type field, use the drop down menu to select POP3 Server.

  9. Type your UDelNet ID in the User Name field

  10. Click OK.

  11. Verify that the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server field says
    mail.udel.edu

  12. Click OK.

  13. Restart Netscape Communicator.

Directions for Netscape 7.x

Note: Directions for changing your mail server from copland.udel.edu to mail.udel.edu are the same for IMAP and POP users.

  1. Open Netscape 7.x Mail & Newsgroups.

  2. From the Edit menu, select Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings.

  3. In the left-hand window pane, select Server Settings. Make sure that the server name in the right-hand window pane is set to
    mail.udel.edu

  4. In the left-hand window pane, select Outgoing Server (SMTP). Make sure that the server name in the right-hand window pane is set to
    mail.udel.edu

  5. Click OK.
