Configuration Instructions for PPP Connections to the University of Delaware

The University's modem pool uses "Point-to-Point Protocol" (PPP) to allow you to connect to the University's network. PPP is a method of providing a direct connection to the Internet over a telephone line with a modem. Using PPP, your computer can make use of the Internet just as a computer connected to the campus Ethernet does, only at a slower speed.

• New users must visit The Network Page to complete two short online quizzes about campus and online citizenship. After completing those quizzes, students will be able to activate their UDelNet accounts (select a UDelNet ID and create a password). Students can activate their account from a University computing site or from any other Internet connection.
• Most computers sold in the past several years contain everything you need to connect to the University's network. Follow the instructions for your computer's operating system.

• Pre-paid phone cards are not set up for dial-in modem service. If you need a pre-paid card service, investigate purchasing a data/Internet pre-paid phone card. To find a list of companies offering this service, do an Internet search for data internet prepaid card.
