Using VPN at UD

The University of Delaware allows faculty, staff and students to use UD's Virtual Private Network (VPN) to log into selected resources restricted to on-campus use. You will find the UD VPN service useful for access to UD restricted resources while working off campus.

A VPN client on your computer enables you to connect to the UD VPN server. After you enter your UDelNet ID and password, you will be assigned a network private address, which may give you access to any host on campus. Your password and all data transmitted between your VPN client and the UD VPN server is encrypted.

This is most appropriate for your off-campus computer, since the encryption means you can safely use your home ISP and the untrusted public internet. You will need an account on the host you want to connect to, and the host must be configured to accept a UD VPN private address.

The VPN client software is available for multiple platforms including Microsoft Windows and Macintosh MacOSX.
