Purpose of the program booklet
For the University,
on Honors Day in May each year, to recognize students and
faculty who have received awards for academic excellence.
The program is
handed out at the Honors Day ceremonies conducted by each College.
Criteria for New Awards
Academic units
may submit new awards for inclusion in the University Honors
Day
program. New awards currently must meet all the following
criteria:
- The award,
if for students, must specify that all awardees have a grade point
average of at least 3.0.
- The award is meant, at least in part, to honor
academic achievement while enrolled at the University of
Delaware.
- If funded
by the University, the award may not be restricted to members
of particular races or ethnicities.
- The award
must be a minimum of $1,000 per year, per recipient, with a commitment to
give the
award for at least 5 years.
- Or, the award is an endowed award for at least $25,000
- Or, the award has historically been listed in the
Honors Day Booklet
- With the exception of the Excellence in
Teaching and Excellence in Advising and Mentoring Awards, recipients of the awards included in the booklet will be
students.

Criteria for
Awardees
Student awardees must have a grade point average of at least 3.0
to be listed in the Honors Day program.

Procedure
for Submitting New Awards for Approval
- Units should
submit an application to the Chair of the Student and Faculty
Honors Committee before March 1 or the date specified by
the Publications
Office in its February memo to all units, whichever is later.
- Please use this form:
Application for New Award
- The Committee
will review the application at its first opportunity and notify
the contact person of its decision.
- The units in question are responsible for submitting all necessary
information to the Publications Office per the instructions it
disseminates to all units in early February. The information on
award descriptions and awardee names is due to your College contact
by mid-March for an Honors Day in early May.
