and Awards Committee
March 13, 2009

Present: Ismat Shah, Mark Barteau, Jim Magee, Michael Gilbert, Mark Serva, Jordan Brown, Katherine Kerrane, Courtney Carson, Palniappa Krishnan, Fabrice Veron, Linda Gottfredson and Meghan Schulz.

1. Approved minutes from Nov. 7 and Feb 13 minutes with corrections suggested by LG.
2. Future meeting dates:
* March 20 (NOTE: 8:00-10:00 a.m.)

3. There were several points of discussions:
i. Should only the people nominated for current year awards be considered? The general consensus was that only the current year nominees should be considered.
ii. How far back into the records should the committee consider while evaluating the nominations? A motion was made by MS and seconded by MG to limit the back record to 5 years only. The motion was passed unanimously.
iii. The back record, especially since the last time the nominee received an award, can be used as a weighting factor while evaluating the nominees.
iv. Using advising nominations for the evaluation of teaching nominations and vice-versa: General consensus was to keep the two categories of the awards separate.
4. Each team presented their pick for the finalist. The list is attached.
5. IS will post all the finalist names on the evaluation database. Each committee member will evaluate the finalist nominations, rank each nominee, send the list of ranking to IS by Thursday, and bring the list to the committee meeting on Friday, March 20, for the selection of the winners.
