3.                  Updates

 

a.       CITA: Excellence database transformation underway & wish-list invited

b.      Alison Award: invitations & new checklist distributed

c.       Excellence Awards: coordination with Public Relations & new publicity (campus-wide poster and ad in The Review); new online access for alumni; more email invitations sent using new distribution system; still need system to reach alumni; need advance planning next year for student event

d.      Honors Day Program booklet: coordination with Publications & new online application form; invited ideas from applicants wanting to include scholarships

 

4.                  Excellence awards

 

a.       Order a banner ad in FaceBook. We usually purchase 40,000 hits/day for the first week after inviting students to nominate and the last week before the deadline, March 1. b.      Review the procedures and timing for deciding finalists and recipients

c.       Revise descriptions of our Excellence Awards in Honors Day Program (2007 entries below)

 

                                                                    i.      Excellence in Faculty Teaching Award The University honors faculty members with monetary awards for excellence in teaching made available with funds from the Office of the President and the Office of the Provost.

                                                                  ii.      Excellence in Graduate Student Teaching Award A monetary award for teaching assistants for excellence in teaching made available with funds from the Office of the President and the Office of the Provost.

                                                                iii.      Excellence in Undergraduate Academic Advising Award This monetary award is given to emphasize the importance of excellent academic advising, to recognize and reward excellent faculty advisors, and to encourage faculty to devote their time and attention to becoming more effective advisors. This campus-wide recognition indicates to students, parents, faculty, and the University community that academic advising is a valued part of the student’s education at the University.

 

d.      Discuss wish list: What information would you want added to or abstracted from the data we get on nominees? E.g., ways each of us can ask questions of the data, if we wish? The system is being redesigned from scratch, so now is the time to think outside our old box.

e.       Reminder: There are two meetings in March: March 7 (8:45 am) and March 14 (8:00 am)
