The University of Delaware's professional education programs are guided by a unified conceptual framework. The professional education unit is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

The individual professional education programs have received State Approved Program status and have been recognized by national specialty organizations as having met their standards. Students who complete one of the University of Delaware's approved teacher education programs receive an Institutional Recommendation for teacher certification. Information on the University's Higher Education Act Title II report is available online or by calling (302) 831-3000.

For persons interested in pursuing a program of study to become a certified teacher, educational specialist, or administrator in a pre-kindergarten through grade 12 school setting, the following options are available:

  • Post Baccaulaureate Non-degree and Alternative Programs

    • Non-Degree Program of Study

Persons who have completed a bachelor’s degree in an academic field (English, foreign language, mathematics, biology, chemistry, earth science – geology, anthropology, economics, geography, history, political science, psychology, sociology) may submit transcript/s of their academic program to the University’s teacher education program coordinator. Faculty within the academic department will determine the additional courses the candidate will need to complete within the academic major and related fields and in the professional studies component in order for the University to recommend that the candidate has completed the equivalent of a “ state-approved program” and to receive the University’s recommendation for certification.
