On Earth Day 2009, the University of Delaware officially announced its Climate Action Plan. The Climate Action Plan involved a 12-month study of university greenhouse emissions and a comprehensive review of university options. The project officially launched on April 10, 2008 with President Harker's signature of the American and College Presidents Climate Commitment and the financial support of the Class of 2008's Senior Class Gift. The effort was led by Distinguished Professor Dr. John Byrne and the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy. An Advisory Group and a Working Group of faculty, staff and students contributed to the development of the carbon inventory and action plan. The University is interested in continuing to hear ideas and questions.
