"Before participating in classes such as 'Leadership in Organizations,' I possessed an incredibly narrow-minded view of what a successful leader was. Domineering, powerful, fear-inspiring, and forceful are among some of the characteristics I believed I needed to possess to achieve successful leadership. Throughout that class, I learned how wrong I was. I learned by example how powerful leadership is when it is shared by all, when risk and creativity are encouraged, promoted, and rewarded. At that end of that semester, I approached my job in a different way. As a manager of a retail sore, I had the opportunity to use my academic knowledge in the work environment. I started holding staff meetings at a round table where everyone was equal, started using only positive speech, and active listening. The results were incredible..
