Heather A. Maginnis




Heather opened the Office of New Student Orientation at UD in July 2009. A native of North Quincy, Massachusetts, Heather has worked in higher education for over 10 years in a variety of areas, including college admissions, residence life, student activities, and orientation. Heather has a B.A in Classics from the College of the Holy Cross, and M.Ed. in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration from the University of Vermont. Heather is an active member of the National Orientation Directors Association (NODA) and the American College Personnel Association (ACPA).


Heather serves as the Director of NSO, overseeing the daily operations and administration of the office and its programs. She develops, plans, and implements orientation programs for freshmen, transfers, international students, and parents, assisted by the entire NSO staff. Heather also coordinates the office’s assessment plan and determines its annual strategic initiatives. In addition, Heather directs several First Year Experience initiatives, including 1743 Welcome Days and Summit.


Outside of her work, Heather enjoys spending time with family and friends, eating out or cooking new recipes at home, reading, going to the movies, and being outside. She is also an active member in the Junior League of Wilmington, DE, and serves as the V.P. of Membership on the League's Board of Directors.
