Lab & X-ray

Laboratory Services

During the academic year, our COLA accredited CLIA certified diagnostic laboratory testing is provided in support of all outpatient clinics and specialty services. Most of the lab work is performed at the SHS, to include urinalysis, complete blood counts, mono testing, strep throat cultures, influenza testing, rapid strep screening, pregnancy testing, cholesterol testing and glucose testing. Laboratory tests must be ordered by a Student Health practitioner.

Hours
Hours of Service are Monday - Friday, 8am to 4:30pm.

Insurance Coverage
Tests included in the Student Health Fee are urinalysis, complete blood count, mononucleosis, strep throat culture, influenza , rapid strep screening, pregnancy, cholesterol, and glucose.

For special studies sent to a reference lab, the patient or patient's insurance carrier is billed for this service by the reference lab. Some insurance plans exclude coverage for laboratory tests not authorized by an insurance plan representative or not done in a lab approved by the plan. While every effort will be made by SHS staff to coordinate your level of coverage with the need for diagnostic laboratory services, you need to be aware of your insurance coverage requirements and limitations at the time of your visit.

X-ray Services

During the academic year, diagnostic X-ray services are provided at Laurel Hall, in cooperation with Papastavros Associates Medical Imaging. For the benefit of patients and SHS staff, X-rays are taken and digital images are made available for immediate evaluation at the SHS. The digital images are then sent electronically to a radiologist for detailed evaluation and reports. The X-ray must be ordered by a Student Health Service practitioner.

Hours
Hours of Service are Monday - Friday, 8:30am to noon and 1-5:00 pm.

Insurance Coverage
The Student Health Fee does not include X-ray Services. Students need to be aware of their insurance coverage requirements and limitations at time of their visit. The charges for specific X-rays are available upon request in the X-ray department.

The patient or patient's health insurance carrier is billed directly by the local radiology group for this service. Some insurance plans exclude coverage for X-rays not authorized by an insurance plan representative or not done in a lab approved by the insurance company. While every effort will be made by SHS staff to coordinate your level of coverage with the need for diagnostic X-ray services, you need to be aware of your insurance coverage requirements and limitations at the time of your visit.

If you are a NCAA athlete and you need an X-ray as a result of a NCAA sports related injury, you need to go to the Athletic Department’s Medical Insurance Office so that your claim will be properly processed.
