Health Insurance
The University sponsors a Student Accident and Sickness Insurance Plan, which offers substantial benefits for covered medical expenses at a relatively low cost for single students. Coverage is also available for a student's spouse and/or dependent children at an additional charge. You're urged to enroll in this plan if you have no other coverage, if your coverage expires during the academic year, or as a supplement to existing insurance coverage. Students from outside the United States are required to have either insurance offered by the University or equivalent insurance coverage.
If you currently have the student insurance plan and you need the name of a facility or practitioner (for a service not available to you at Student Health) who will accept the insurance plan's usual and customary charge (less any applicable deductibles and/or copays), select the section on searching for a practitioner or all facilities on the Multiplan Website. If you cannot find a provider on this web site, call Multiplan at (800) 557-6794.
Health Plans
The Nationwide Life Insurance Company offers two (2) types of plans to University of Delaware students and their dependents. The medical plans are designed specifically for college students and cover medical expenses not provided by the Student Health Service.
Blue Plan:
Coverage is provided for inpatient and outpatient facility charges, surgical and anesthesia services, and diagnostic services after a $50 deductible at 80% of the allowable charges up to a maximum of $2,000. Coverage is 100% of allowable charges for amounts over $2,000. The maximum per illness or injury is $50,000.
Blue Gold Plan:
This plan offers you all the protection under the Blue Plan above but extends the maximum per illness or injury to $1,000,000.
