Founded in 1856 at Norwich University in Vermont, Theta Chi has more than 155,000 initiates across the nation and has had 214 chapters installed nationally since 1856. With a brotherhood currently at 47, the Alpha Xi Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity strives to be the best at everything we do. Winning first place in Greek Week ‘04, and placing second in ’05, our silver status allows us to enjoy full social privileges such as: mixers with sororities, Homecoming, Greek Week, formal, etc. Our Powderpuff Sorority Football Tournament, held every fall, has helped raise thousands for the American Cancer Society, all while having a good time interacting with all the sororities. In addition, our participation in the annual Breast Cancer Walk in Wilmington is a tradition we value greatly. Our brothers participate fully in intramural sports such as basketball, football, soccer, dodgeball, etc.
With a strict no-hazing policy, our new member education process is designed to inform potential brothers about the history of our chapter both locally, and internationally. Our maxim, “Alma Mater first, and Theta Chi for Alma Mater” stresses the importance of achieving a college degree while enjoying what the brotherhood has to offer. Consistently above the all-men’s GPA, we pursue our academic goals while learning vital leadership skills. Winner of the Alter Award, the highest award given to a chapter by our International Headquarters, our chapter sets an example not only here at UD, but across the nation as well. The ideals and objectives of Theta Chi can be seen through the strong wording of our Creed. Our big brother program, matches new members with experienced brothers to make the learning process easier and answer any questions that might be presented. This April 2006 will account for 150 years of tradition, brotherhood, and the making of leaders. We encourage you to become part of an experience you’ll never forget.
