Alpha Xi Delta, founded at Lombard College on April 17, 1893, established its Theta Gamma chapter at the University of Delaware in October of 1989. Alpha Xi Delta encourages their women to "Realize Their Potential." The individuality of each sister, along with the talents and interests she contributes, helps make our sorority a strong and diverse sisterhood. Alpha Xi Delta is honored to be the first sorority to have achieved a perfect score in CAP and a Gold status by Fraternity and Sorority Life and is proud to have the highest sorority GPA.
Our national philanthropy is Choose Children. Alpha Xi Delta focuses on childhood literacy through First Book. Sisters promote childhood literacy through volunteering at an elementary school in Newark where they read with children. In the spring of 2001, we began our annual 5K run/walk fundraising event, which is an amazing success. The money Alpha Xi Delta raises goes to a scholarship in memory of one of our past sisters who lost her battle with cancer, to provide supplies and field trips for Girls Inc. summer camp, and to support the City of Newark’s Downtown Newark Partnership for the beautification of Newark. Alpha Xi Delta also organized “A Night Out In Newark” to benefit Hurricane Katrina relief efforts in early Fall 2005. In addition to our own fundraising efforts, we participate in other Greek philanthropic and community events. Numerous sisterhood activities and Greek events make up a busy schedule for our sisters!
Our sisters can't wait for Recruitment, when we will find new women to share the special bonds and traditions of Alpha Xi Delta. The friendships and memories we make now will last a lifetime!
