HARRISONBURG, VA -- The University of Delaware women's tennis team defeated James Madison for the first time ever on Saturday, cruising to a 7-0 victory on the second day of the Colonial Athletic Association round-robin weekend, while the Blue Hen men dropped a 6-1 decision to the Dukes.

The women swept all six singles matches and won two of three in doubles play to remain unbeaten in CAA play at 4-0 and move their overall record to 9-1. As she has all season, senior Susan Pollack anchored the Blue Hens at first singles, where she dispatched Rebecca Erickson by a 6-1, 6-2 score. Pollack picked up her 65th career singles win and improved to 16-5 at first singles on the season.

Freshman Courtney Fenimore took a third-set tie-breaker from Kristin Nimitz for a dramatic 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 10-4 win at second singles, while sophomore Elena Berry (at right) notched her eighth straight victory at the No. 3 spot, downing the Dukes' Kelly Maxwell 6-1, 6-2. Junior Amanda Campbell captured a 7-5, 6-0 straight-setter over Alyssa Brandalik in fourth-singles action, and senior No. 5 Alexa Dragonette didn't surrender a game on the way to a 6-0, 6-0 rout of JMU's Ida Donner. Freshman Ivana Petrich was equally impressive at the sixth slot, blowing out Barrett Donner 6-0, 6-1.

Pollack and Fenimore eased past Erickson and Nimitz by an 8-2 tally at first doubles, while Berry and Petrich secured the doubles point by shutting out Brandalik and Ida Donner at No. 2.

The women had lost all six previous meetings with James Madison, including a 3-4 heartbreaker last season. Delaware is off to its best start since it began the 2004-05 campaign at 9-1, while the Hens are 4-0 in the conference for the first time since 2002-03.

Sophomore Camilo Perez provided the only bright spot for the men (8-5, 3-1 CAA), as he recorded a 6-0, 6-3 sixth-singles win over JMU's Yaroslav Voznenko. Coach Laura Travis also got a solid effort from freshman Chris Hincker, who fought hard in a 7-5, 7-6 (8-6) loss to Brian Rubenstein in their fourth-singles showdown.

The men fell to 0-6 all-time against James Madison.

Both UD teams return to action on Sunday in Harrisonburg, where the women face Hofstra at 9 a.m. and the men take on UNC Wilmington at noon.
