WASHINGTON, DC -- The University of Delaware women's tennis team won its fifth consecutive match on Wednesday afternoon, as the Hens squeaked by Georgetown 4-3 at McDonough Tennis Complex.

Delaware (11-1, 5-0 Colonial Athletic Association), off to its best start since it began the 1997-98 campaign with 17 consecutive victories, was paced by senior No. 1 Susan Pollack. She downed the Hoyas' Stephanie Cohen 6-3, 6-2 to set the tone for the Hens.

In other singles action, freshman Courtney Fenimore fell to GU's Courtney Olsen by a 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 tally at No. 2, sophomore Elena Berry (at right) won her 10th consecutive singles match by upending Elizabeth Sullivan 6-1, 6-2 at the third slot, and junior Amanda Campbell fought off Maxi Thiels for a 7-5, 0-6, 7-5 triumph at No. 4. Berry's victory was her 20th of the season, good for the team lead.

Senior Alexa Dragonette came up short in a 6-3, 6-3 fifth-singles setback at the hands of the Hoyas' Alex Sebia, but freshman Ivana Petrich toppled Liz Winokur 6-1, 6-2 at the sixth slot to get Delaware back on track.

Petrich has tallied 19 singles wins, tied for the second-most ever by a UD freshman.

Georgetown swept three highly competitive doubles matches, but the Hens clinched the win by taking four of the first five singles matches before Olsen defeated Fenimore in the finale.

Delaware, which avenged last season's 3-4 loss to Georgetown and improved to 5-2 all-time against the Big East contender, returns to action on Monday at UMBC.
