Sarah Begley Wins Four Events as the Blue Hen Swimming and Diving Teams Sweep Vermont and Drexel

NEWARK, DE -- Led by four victories from Sarah Begley, John Ohlhaver, and Andrew Zinn, the University of Delaware swimming and diving teams swept their pod meet with Vermont and Drexel on Saturday afternoon at the Rawstrom Natatorium.

The women (5-1, 3-1 CAA), who won eight events on the day, defeated Drexel, 196-103, in a Colonial Athletic Association showdown, before also downing Vermont, 191-109.

The Delaware men (3-1, 2-1 CAA) also won their conference meet with Drexel, 163-137, after capturing eight first-place finishes as well.

Begley (at right) won the 50 Yard Freestyle in 24.99 and the 100 Yard Butterfly in 58.87. She also teamed with Emily Smathers, Meghan Barber, and Maryann Walker to win the 200 Yard Medley in 1:50.97, while she joined forces with Walker, Rachel Greene, and Donna Healy to capture the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay in 3:37.96.

Barber also won the 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:08.87), while Cortney Barry captured the 1000 Yard Freestyle, finishing in 10:24.87. Lauren Guntner and Stephanie House rounded out the Hens’ first-place finishers, winning the 200 Yard IM (2:15.34) and 200 Yard Butterfly (2:11.16) respectively.

On the men’s side, John Ohlhaver and Andrew Zinn paced the Hens with four victories. Ohlhaver won the 100 (53.32) and 200 (1:56.30) Yard Backstrokes, while Andrew Zinn finished first in the 50 (20.76) and 100 (46.71) Yard Freestyles.

Ohlhaver and Zinn also teamed with Grady Carter and Adam Blomberg to win the 200 Yard Medley Relay, finishing in 1:36.46, while they joined with Carter and Zach Schiavo to win the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay in 3:11.83.

Blomberg also won the 200 Yard IM (2:01.05), while Matt Wehrman captured the 1000 Yard Freestyle in 9:57.40.

Craig Young also had a good day for Delaware, finishing second in both the 100 (54.10)and 200 (1:56.96) Yard Backstrokes. He also placed third in 200 Yard IM (2:02.87).

Both Delaware swim teams return to the pool next Saturday when they travel to Philadelphia to take on LaSalle and Rider at 1 p.m.
