  Delaware Women Have Eight-Meet Win Streak Snapped, Fall to Towson 173.5-123.5

Athlete photoTOWSON, MD -- The University of Delaware men won nine events and the UD women captured five races but it wasn’t enough as the Blue Hens were swept by host Towson in a Colonial Athletic Association swimming and diving dual meet Saturday afternoon.

The Towson men edged Delaware 153-147 while the Tiger women posted a 173.5-123.5 victory over the Blue Hens. The Delaware women had an eight-meet dual streak snapped to fall to 10-2 (4-2 CAA) while the UD men fell to 5-5 (3-2 CAA).

The Delaware men won nine of the 16 events but it was Towson’s depth that won it for the Tigers. Andrew Zinn captured four events as he won the 50 freestyle (21.23) and 100 freestyle (47.48) and teamed with John Ohlhaver, Brad Damtoft, and Adam Blomberg to win the 200 freestyle relay (1:27.95) and combined with Adam Mullan, Mark Erdosy, and Blomberg to take the 200 medley relay (1:38.38).

Matt Abbruzzese also won two events for the Hens as he captured the one-meter dive (243.23) and three-meter dive (256.72) while Erdosy won the 100 breaststroke (1:02.17), Ohlhaver won the 100 backstroke with the second best time in UD history (53.21), and Blomberg captured the 200 freestyle (1:47.60). Blomberg was also second in the 100 butterfly (53.45) and Ohlhaver was second in the 200 backstroke (1:57.49).

The Delaware women were winners of five events as Michelle Stephens (at right) won the 200 individual medley (2:13.01), Emily Pretz captured the three-meter diving event (203.85), Maryann Walker won the 200 backstroke (2:07.05), Kailey Pelton won the 200 butterfly (2:08.85), and Meredith Law captured the 1,000 freestyle (10:30.32). Walker was also second in the 200 freestyle relay, 50 freestyle, and 200 freestyle while Stephens was second in the 200 breaststroke (2:28.21).
