University of Delaware Swimming & Diving Teams Earn National Top 25 Rankings in Mid-Major Poll

SOMERS, WI -- The University of Delaware men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams maintained their NCAA Division I Mid-Major national Top 25 rankings in the latest polls announced this week by CollegeSwimming.com.

The Blue Hen men, who finished the regular season with a dual meet record of 7-6, their highest win total since 1995-96, earned a No. 19 ranking while the Blue Hen women, who finished the dual meet season with a mark of 13-2, earned a No. 25 ranking. The 13 wins for the UD women tied a school record.

In the most recent poll in late December, the Delaware men were ranked No. 18 while the UD women were ranked No. 23.

Both the UD men’s and women’s teams will compete at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships this week, Feb. 14-17, at George Mason University’s McKay Natatorium in Fairfax, VA. The Delaware men placed eighth at the meet a year ago while the UD women finished fifth.

Navy topped the men’s poll followed by Cornell, Princeton, Eastern Michigan, Denver, Oakland, Missouri State, Massachusetts, Western Kentucky, UMBC, Southern Illinois, Florida Atlantic, UC-Irvine, Penn, UW-Milwaukee, Wright State, Binghamton, James Madison, Delaware, UNC Wilmington, Marist, St. Bonaventure, LaSalle, William & Mary, and Towson.

Miami (OH) was picked No. 1in the women’s poll followed by Navy, Florida Atlantic, Harvard, Penn, Southern Illinois, Eastern Michigan, UMBC, UNC Wilmington, Richmond, UW-Milwaukee, Western Kentucky, Denver, Toledo, St. Louis, William & Mary, Wright State, George Mason, Missouri State, Colgate, Illinois State, Towson, Massachusetts, James Madison, and Delaware.

The Delaware men are led by diver Matt Abbruzzese, freestyle sprinter Andrew Zinn, distance freestyler Joe Virion, backstroke specialist John Ohlhaver, and butterfly specialist Adam Blomberg.

The Blue Hen women are led by freestyle sprinter Rachel Greene, distance freestyler Meredith Law, breaststroke specialist Kellie Pastore (at right), and backstroke ace Maryann Walker.
