Delaware Women's Swimming Defeats La Salle, 146-92

NEWARK, DE -- Sarah Begley and Maryann Walker (at right) each won an event and were a part of the winning 400 yard medley relay team and Sarah Bergen won the one and three meter diving competitions to lead the University of Delaware women’s swimming team to a 146-92 win over LaSalle University on Saturday at Harry Rawstrom Natatorium.

Adam Blomberg won the 100 and 200 yard freestyle events and was part of the 400 yard freestyle relay team that captured its event in a 135-108 loss for the Delaware men.

The Delaware women (7-1, 4-1 CAA) featured seven different individual winners, with Bergen capturing both diving events. Meredith Law won the 1000 freestyle and finished second in the 500 freestyle, while Rachel Greene won the 50 yard freestyle and finished third in the 100 yard free. Delaware also received wins from Stephanie House (200 butterfly), Sarah Begley (100 freestyle), and Emily Smathers (200 backstroke).

On the men’s side, Blomberg captured the 100 and 200 yard freestyle events and Andrew Zinn captured the 50 free for the third consecutive meet. Zinn and Blomberg, along with Brendan Spencer and John Ohlhaver captured the 400 yard freestyle relay. Zinn was also a part of the 400 medley relay team that finished second.

Joe Virion finished second in both the 500 and 1000 freestyle events, while Matt Abbruzzese finished second in one and three meter diving.

The Delaware men (4-2, 3-1 CAA) and women will return to action December 1-2 at the Loyola (MD) Invitational.
