  Walker, Law Lead the Way as Delaware Swimmers Dunk James Madison 150-93

Athlete photoNEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware women collected eight first place finishes to win big and the Blue Hen men captured six events but were edged for the second straight meet in a Colonial Athletic Association swimming and diving meet vs. James Madison Saturday afternoon at Rawstrom Pool.

The Delaware women (11-2, 5-2 CAA) got three wins from sophomore Maryann Walker and two from senior Meredith Law (at right) in posting a 150-93 win over James Madison while the Delaware men (5-6, 3-3 CAA) lost their second straight meet with a 128-115 setback despite three wins each from juniors Adam Blomberg and Andrew Zinn and another diving sweep by sophomore Matt Abbruzzese.

The Blue Hen women defeated James Madison (0-6, 0-4 CAA) for the fourth straight time while the Dukes men’s team (5-3, 2-2 CAA) got by Delaware for the sixth straight time in the series.

Walker led the UD women once again as she captured three events, taking first place in the 200 freestyle (1:56.22) and 200 backstroke (2:07.79) and teaming with sophomores Emily Watts, Kellie Pastore, and Sarah Begley to win the 400 medley relay (3:59.70). Law won the 500 freestyle (5:13.93) and 1,000 freestyle (10:42.07) while also placing second in the 400 individual medley (4:38.84).

For the Delaware men, Blomberg was a triple winner as he captured the 200 butterfly (1:58.11) and teamed with sophomore John Ohlhaver, senior Brendan Spencer, and junior Zinn to win the 400 freestyle relay (3:11.39) and combined with Spencer, sophomore Mark Erdosy, and Zinn to win the 400 medley relay (3:39.48). Zinn also won the 50 freestyle (21.31) event.

Also winning for the Delaware women were Pastore in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.90), sophomore Stephanie House in the 200 butterfly (2:09.42), and junior Michelle Stephens in the 400 individual medley (4:36.46). Stephens, junior Ellen Heinz, Begley, sophomore Kailey Pelton, senior diver Emily Pretz, and freshman Rachel Greene each added two second place finishes.

Also for the Delaware men, Ohlhaver took second in the 200 freestyle (1:46.31) and junior Troy Sattgast finished second in the 400 medley relay (3:42.84), 1,000 freestyle (10:03.00), and 200 butterfly (1:59.25).
