NEWARK, DE -- Andrew Zinn won the 50 freestyle while Matt Abbruzzese took the three meter diving as the University of Delaware men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams hosted Northeastern, William & Mary, and Old Dominion in the first day of a Colonial Athletic Association quad meet Friday at Harry Rawstrom Natatorium.
The Delaware men’s team is leading Old Dominion, 105-78, and trailing William & Mary, 103-82, following the first day of action. The Blue Hen women are leading Northeastern, which does not have a men’s team, 108-78, and Old Dominion, 129-57, but are trailing the Tribe, 123-62, following Friday’s events.
Zinn led the Delaware men’s team by winning the 50 freestyle in 21.28, while Abbruzzese took the three meter diving event with a 284.40 score. The Blue Hen 200 freestyle relay team of Brendan Spencer, Adam Blomberg, John Ohlhaver, and Zinn also captured its event in 1:27.36.
The UD 400 medley relay team of Adam Mullan, Matthew Rathbun, Troy Sattgast, and Spencer finished second in its race in 3:35.56, while Blomberg came in second in the 200 freestyle in 1:45.14. Sattgast was second in the 200 butterfly in 1:58.54, while Ben Blotner placed second in the three meter diving with a 271.80 score.
Joe Virion finished third in the 1650 freestyle in 16:52.57 for the Blue Hens, while Ohlhaver was third in the 100 backstroke in 53.84 and Rathbun came in third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.50. Garrett Arant placed third in the 400 individual medley in 4:19.39, while Thomas Gallagher was third in the three meter diving with a 213.80 score.
Kellie Pastore led the Delaware women’s team by finishing second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.62, while the UD 400 medley relay team of Emily Watts, Pastore, Sarah Begley, and Maryann Walker placed second in its race in 3:59.87. Stephanie House (above) came in second in the three meter diving with a 225.65 score, while the Blue Hen 200 freestyle relay team of Begley, Kendall Warren, Walker, and Rachel Greene placed second in its event in 1:39.45.
Walker finished third in the 200 freestyle in 1:55.55 for Delaware, while House placed third in the 200 butterfly in 2:09.85 and Meredith Law came in third in the 400 individual medley in 4:44.59.
The quad meet concludes Saturday at Rawstrom Natatorium, with the diving events beginning at 10 a.m. and the swimming events starting at 12 noon.
