RICHMOND, VA -- University of Delaware freshman diver Shannon Burke has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Female Diver of the Week for the period ending Jan. 31.

Burke, a freshman from Shelton, CT (Shelton High School), was cited for her performance in the Blue Hens’ 141-102 setback to host Bucknell in the team’s final dual meet of the season Friday evening.

Delaware divers have now been honored by the CAA as divers of the week four times. Alyson Oliver has won the women’s award twice this winter while Matt Abbruzzese has won the men’s award once.

Burke, was one of five Blue Hens to capture a first place finish as she won the one-meter diving event with a score of 225.90 points and placed second in the three-meter competition with a score of 207.97 points.

The loss snapped a streak of nine straight wins for the Blue Hens, who fell to 11-2 this season in dual meet competition. Delaware will continue action Feb. 22-25 when the Blue Hens take part in the Colonial Athletic Association Championships at George Mason’s McKay Natatorium in Fairfax, VA.

In addition to Burke, also honored by the CAA this week was Male Swimmer of the Week Gordon Amato (Towson), Female Swimmer of the Week Rebekah Teague (UNC Wilmington), and Male Diver of the Week Dean Berman (UNC Wilmington).
