Swimmers Rank High in Mid-Season CAA Top

RICHMOND,
VA --- Several University of Delaware
men's and women's swimmers are among the
leaders on the 2004-05 Colonial Athletic
Association mid-season top times list
announced by the league office recently.
Ten Blue
Hen swimmers are listed in the individual
top 10 in their respective event
categories, including three swimmers with
the league's best time this season.
For the
Delaware women, sophomore Meredith Law
(Nansemond-Suffolk Academy/Chesapeake, VA
- at right) is ranked No. 1 in the 1,650
freestyle (17:23.31) and No. 6 in the 500
freestyle (5:10.59); senior Sara Stephens
(St. Mark's/Wilmington, DE) is ranked No.
1 in the 100 butterfly (57.00) and 200
butterfly (2:05.53), No. 3 in the 200
breaststroke (2:24.21), and No. 7 in the
200 individual medley (2:11.50); senior
Kim Fields (Severna Park/Severna Park, MD)
is ranked No. 4 in the 1,650 freestyle
(17:42.92); and sophomore Sara Reed
(East/West Chester, PA) is No. 9 in the
200 backstroke (2:10.57).
In
addition, the Delaware 400 freestyle relay
team is ranked seventh and the 200 medley
relay team is ranked eighth.
On the
men's side, freshman senior Adam Goldstein
(Highland Lakes/Vernon Twp., NJ) is No. 1
in the 200 breaststroke (2:02.13),
sophomore Brendan Spencer
(Yorktown/Arlington, VA) is No. 2 in the
200 breaststroke (2:02.23), freshman Adam
Blomberg (Kamiakinis/Kennewick, WA) is
ranked No. 3 in the 200 freestyle
(1:43.69) and No. 9 in the 500 freestyle
(4:47.45), sophomore Cory Sanderson
(Einstein/Kensington, MD) is ranked No. 3
in the 200 breaststroke (2:02.75), junior
Levan Beridze (Princeton, NJ/Tbilisi,
Georgia) is No. 5 in the 50 freestyle
(21.56) and No. 8 in the 100 freestyle
(47.46), and senior Joe Virion
(Concord/Wilmington, DE) is No. 8 in the
1,650 freestyle (16;45.20).
In
addition, the 400 freestyle relay team is
ranked No. 6 with a top time of
3:11.75.
Delaware
will return to action this Saturday, Jan.
8 when both the UD men and women travel to
CAA opponent Towson University. The annual
CAA championships are set for Feb. 23-26
at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA.
