Four
Blue Hens Win Two Events Each As Delaware
Women's Swimming and Diving Defeats

PHILADELPHIA,
PA -- The University of Delaware women's
swimming and diving team posted a 150-91
win at Drexel while the Blue Hen men's
team fell to the Dragons, 143-86, in a
Colonial Athletic Association meet
Saturday afternoon at the Daskalakis
Athletic Center.
The
Delaware women's team had four swimmers
win two events as the Blue Hens improved
to 3-2 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
Sophomore Meredith Law (Chesapeake,
VA/Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) won the 1000
freestyle in 10:40.31 and the 500
freestyle in 5:11.08, while freshman Ellen
Heinz (West Chester, PA/Henderson) took
the 50 freestyle in 25.54 and the 100
freestyle in 55.01. Senior Kim Fields
(Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) captured
the 200 individual medley in 2:15.95 and
the 200 backstroke in 2:11.93, while
senior Sara Stephens (Wilmington, DE/St.
Mark's) won the 200 butterfly in 2:09.15
and the 200 breaststroke in
2:27.49.
The other
individual event winner for the Blue Hens
was junior Sarah Reed (East Greenwich,
RI/West Chester (PA) East/Syracuse), who
took the 200 freestyle in 1:58.13, while
the UD 400 medley relay team of senior
Kristen Avioli (West Chester, PA/Bishop
Shanahan), Heinz, Stephens, and Reed won
its event in 4:05.35.
Sophomore
Kendall Warren (Downingtown,
PA/Downingtown/TCNJ) finished second in
both the 200 freestyle in 2:01.21 and the
100 freestyle in 55.98, while Reed placed
second in the 500 freestyle in 5:14.52.
Avioli was second in the 200 backstroke in
2:13.15, while senior Sarah Bacewicz
(Tolland, CT/Tolland) came in second in
the 200 butterfly in 2:15.75. The Blue Hen
400 medley relay team of freshman Kristina
Lamoreaux (East Greenwich, RI/East
Greenwich), sophomore Miranda Conrad
(Enola, PA/East Pennsboro), Bacewicz, and
freshman Laura Schultz (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus)
finished second in its race in
4:16.53.
The
Delaware men, who fell to 1-4 overall and
0-4 in the league, were led by sophomore
Joe Virion (Wilmington, DE/Concord), who
won the 1000 freestyle in 10:15.39, and
freshman Adam Blomberg (Kennewick,
WA/Kamiakin), who captured the 200
butterfly in 2:00.98. The UD 400 freestyle
relay team of freshman Andrew Zinn
(Wilmington, DE/McKean), junior Levan
Beridze (Tbilisi, Georgia/Princeton,
NJ/Rutgers), sophomore Brendan Spencer
(Arlington, VA/Yorktown), and Blomberg
also won its event in 3:12.81.
Blomberg
finished second in the 200 freestyle in
1:44.75, Beridze was second in the 50
freestyle in 22.29, and Virion placed
second in the 500 freestyle in 4:59.30.
Freshman Jeff Falini (Bear, DE/Salesianum)
finished second in both the 3-meter diving
with 182.25 points and the 1-meter diving
with 182.70 points.
Both Blue
Hen teams return to action on Saturday,
November 20 when they host Rider at 1 p.m.
at Harry Rawstrom Pool.
