Hens Ready for CAA Championships this Week
at George Mason

FAIRFAX,
VA -- The University of Delaware men's
and women's swimming and diving teams will
compete in the Colonial Athletic
Association Championships this week at
George Mason University's Jim McKay
Natatorium.
In
addition to Delaware, also competing will
be Drexel, host George Mason, James
Madison, UNC Wilmington, Old Dominion,
Towson, William & Mary, College of
Charleston, and Davidson. College of
Charleston and Davidson are league
associate members.
UNC
Wilmington has won the men's team title
each of the past three seasons while the
George Mason women won their third
straight title last season. The Delaware
women will be looking to improve upon last
year's fifth place finish and fourth place
finishes in 2002 and 2003 while the men
will be looking to move up from last
year's 10th place finish and ninth place
finishes in both 2002 and 2003. The Blue
Hens, who are coached by John
Hayman.
The meet
will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 23 with the
women's three-meter diving preliminaries
and will continue on Thursday, Feb. 24,
Friday, Feb. 25, and Saturday, Feb. 26.
Preliminary races will be held in the
mornings with the final set for each
evening beginning at 7 p.m.
Leading
the Delaware women will be senior Sara
Stephens (right), who won the CAA 400
medley relay title a year ago and is one
of the league's top breaststroke,
butterfly, and individual medley
competitors, and junior Meredith Law, one
of the league's top distance freestylers.
Law and Sara Reed were members of last
year's CAA champion 800 freestyle relay
while Kristen Avioli returns to defend her
CAA title in the 400 medley relay.
Leading
the Delaware men are newcomers Levan
Beridze and Adam Blomberg, junior Brendan
Spencer, and senior distance freestyler
Adam Goldstein. Spencer was eighth in the
200 freestyle relay a year ago at the CAA
meet.
