February 20, 2004 Peffer Wins Fourth Title of Meet; Stephens and Fitzgerald Add Seconds for Hens FAIRFAX, VA -- University of Delaware senior Sarah Peffer won another conference title and set yet another school record as the Blue Hen women moved to sixth place in the team standings during the third day of the Colonial Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Championships Friday night at George Mason University's Fitness and Aquatic Center. Peffer won her fourth title of this year's championship, and her seventh overall in two years, as she broke her own school record in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:25.81. Also setting a school record for the UD women was Sara Stephens, who placed second in the 100 butterfly with a time a of 56.06, breaking her own school record. The George Mason women remained in first place in the team standings with 439 points, ahead of UNC Wilmington (371), Davidson (331), Towson (266), William & Mary (240), Delaware (238), Old Dominion (227), James Madison (186), Drexel (170), and College of Charleston (90). UNC Wilmington leads the men's standings with 404.5 points, ahead of George Mason (278.5), James Madison (346.5), Towson (269), William & Mary (242), Drexel (200.5), Old Dominion (199), Davidson (167), College of Charleston (103), and Delaware (96). The fourth and final round of the championships will be held Saturday with the preliminaries at 10 a.m. followed by the finals at 6 p.m. For the Delaware men Friday, the 200 freestyle relay team of David Hardy, Alex Skacel, Colin Gibson, and Brendan Spencer placed eighth in a time of 1:29.57, the best finish by a UD men's relay team this week. Also for UD, freshman Cory Sanderson placed 13th in the 400 individual medley (4:11.57), and Hardy placed 16th in the 100 breaststroke (59.70). Also for the UD women Friday, Jill Fitzgerald was second in the 200 freestyle (1:52.75), Sara Reed was seventh in the 200 freestyle (1:55.78), the 200 freestyle relay team of Stephens, Meredith Law, Peffer, and Reed was ninth in a time of 1:40.67, Kristen Avioli was 12th in the 100 backstroke (59.64), and Lauren Ostroski was 13th in the 400 individual medley (4:42.56) and 16th in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.29).
