Van Deusen Places 35th in Three-Meter Diving Event

Julie Van Deusen became the first UD diver to compete at the NCAA championships

AUSTIN, TX -- University of Delaware junior Julie VanDeusen placed 35th in the three-meter diving event at the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at University of Texas Friday night.

VanDeusen, a junior from Bear, DE who qualified for the national championships after finishing third in the three-meter diving event at the NCAA Zone meet last weekend in Annapolis, MD, was among 40 competitors in the three-meter event. She finished the first preliminary round a score of 230.10 and did not make the cut of 24 divers that advanced to the second round.

VanDeusen is the UD male or female diver to qualify for the NCAA Championships and the first individual competitor in school history since 1986.

Thursday night, VanDeusen finished 32nd out of 39 competitors in the one-meter diving event. She won the Colonial Athletic Association title in the one-meter event last month.
