Each Win Two Events for Blue Hens

BALTIMORE, MD -- Jennifer Haus
and Julie Van Deusen each won two events for the
University of Delaware women and Lavar Larks and Bryan
Kahner, Kevin Weisser, and Rick Dressel posted multiple wins
for the UD men as the Blue Hens swept host Loyola in a men's
and women's swimming and diving meet Saturday
afternoon.
The Delaware men (4-5) snapped a
three-meet losing streak with 130.5-106.5 victory while the
Delaware women (7-5), who took 11 first place finishes, won
their second straight meet with a 156.5-82.5 victory. The UD
men, who captured seven races, downed Loyola for the 13th
straight time. It was the first ever meeting between
Delaware and Loyola on the women's side.
For the Delaware women, Van Deusen (Hill
School, Pa./Bear, DE) remained undefeated on the season in
the one and three-meter diving events as she captured the
one-meter event with a school-record total of 266.70 points
and captured the three-meter event with 261.68 points. She
broke the one-meter record of 260.70 by Nell Rose
Foreman in 1988-89. Haus (St. Mark's/Newark, DE)
captured the 200 freestyle (1:57.28) and swam a leg of the
winning 400 medley relay team (4:05.94).
Also winning for the Blue Hens was
Sara Stephens (St. Mark's/Wilmington, DE) in the 200
breaststroke (2:25.84); Erin Colbert (Newark/Newark,
DE) in the 200 backstroke (2:13.84); Jill Fitzgerald
(Wood/Warminster, PA) in the 100 freestyle (55.05);
Lindsay Mathers (Bowie/Bowie, MD) in the 200
butterfly (2:14.44), Andrea Rossi
(Muhlenberg/Reading, PA) in the 50 freestyle (25.46),
Amy Spooner (Upper Dublin/Maple Glen, PA) in the 200
individual medley (2:19.44), Meghan Petry in the
1,000 freestyle (10:36.50), and Kristin Avioli
(Bishop Shanahan/West Chester, PA), Sandy Stephens
(St. Mark's/Wilmington, DE), and Rebecca Caldwell
(McCaskey/Lancaster, PA) in the 400 medley relay.
Sandy Stephens also placed second in the
100 freestyle (55.75), Fitzgerald was second in the 200
freestyle (2:01.40) and 400 medley relay, Sara Stephens was
second in the 400 medley relay, Spooner was second in the
1,000 freestyle, and Aidan Hausmann (Marine
Academy/Holmdel, NJ) was second in the 400 medley relay and
50 freestyle (26.13).
For the UD men, Kahner (Jericho/Jericho,
Ny) won three events as he captured the 1,000 freestyle in
10:03.15, the 100 freestyle in 48.30, and swam a leg of the
winning 400 medley relay in 3:19.59. Also winning multiple
events for the Hens were Larks (Mt. Pleasant/Wilmington, DE)
in the one-meter (226.50) and three-meter (235.95) diving
competitions, Dressel (McKean/Wilmington, DE) in the 50
freestyle (22.73) and 400 medley relay, and Weisser
(Franklin Regional/Murrysville, PA) in the 500 freestyle
(4:49.89) and 400 medley relay. Alex Skacel (Holy
Cross/Moorestown, NJ) also swam a leg of the winning 400
medley relay along with Weisser, Dressel, and
Kahner.
Weisser was also second in the 200
freestyle (1:45.11), Bob Frey (East/West Chester, PA ) was
second in both the 400 freestyle relay and 200 individual
medley (2:02.13), Skacel was second in the 200 backstroke
(1:58.07), Tim Wasiewski (McCaskey/Lancaster, PA) was second
in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.68) and 400 medley relay, and
Matt Aungst (Aquinas Academy/Newark, DE) was second in the
200 butterfly (2:03.97) and 400 medley relay.
After a week off next weekend, both Blue
Hen teams will swim their final dual meet of the season Feb.
9 at home vs. Georgetown.
