NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware men's and
women's swimming and diving teams closed out their dual meet
seasons Saturday afternoon by routing visiting Loyola (Md.)
at the Rawstrom Pool.
The Blue Hen women (8-5) won their third straight dual
meet with a 154-93 victory while the Delaware men (6-7)
snapped a two-meet losing streak with a 151-69 win over the
Greyhounds. The Blue Hens will now prepare for the America
East Championships Feb. 19-21 at the University of Maine.
The Delaware men are the two-time defending league
champions.
In Saturday's women's meet, sophomore diver Tanya
Mainville (Cheshire, CT HS) set two school records and
freshmen Kathryn Fryer (Severna Park, Md. HS) and
Jennifer Haus (St. Mark's HS) each won two events as
the Hens captured eight first place finishes. In the men's
race, Delaware captured nine first place finishes led by
sophomore Michael Gallaher (West Peabody, Mass. HS)
who won both the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle events.
Mainville won the 1-meter dive with a school record
415.05 points, breaking the mark of 396.83 set by Beth Ian
in 1996-97 for 10 dives. Mainville set a school and Rawstrom
Pool record while diving as an exhibition participant and
totalled 473.18 points, breaking the school record of 396.83
by Ian in 1996-97. Fryer won both the 100 butterfly
(1:02.31) and 100 backstroke (1:02.87) while Haus captured
the 50 freestyle (26.15) and 100 freestyle (55.31) .
Also for Delaware, Amanda Stouffer (O.J.
Roberts/Spring City, PA) won the 200 freestyle (2:02.21) and
Sara Dyson (Liberty/Bethlehem, PA) captured the 400
IM (4:43.02). Stouffer and Fryer teamed with Lisa
Dillinger (Pallotti/Crofton, MD) and Kelly
Torbert to win the 200 medley relay.
In the men's meet, Gallaher won both the 200 freestyle
(1:46.94) and 100 freestyle (50.04), Luke Schenck
(Cathedral Prep/Edinboro, PA) won the 1,650 freestyle
(16:36.68), Eric Youngblood (Wayzata/Plymouth, MN)
captured the 400 IM (4:26.78), Brian Aston (Cheshire,
CT HS) won the one-meter dive (451.20 pts.), Mike
Zambarano (Mercersburg/Harrisburg, PA) won the 100
butterfly (54.32), Brian McGillen (St. Mark's HS) won
the 100 backstroke (56.44), and Jim Reichart (Emmaus,
PA HS) captured the 500 freestyle (4:52.55).
