Mainville, Haus, Stouffer Pace UD Women's Team to Victory

 

NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware men's and women's swimming and diving teams came back strong from a five-week layoff to sweep Georgetown University in a non-league meet Saturday at Rawstrom Pool.

The Blue Hens men improved to 4-1 with a 150-83 victory over the Hoyas (0-7) while the Delaware women (4-1) posted a 149-96 triumph over Georgetown (2-6). Both Delaware teams were competing in their first dual meet since sweeping Lafayette back on Dec. 8.

In the women's race, senior Tanya Mainville (Cheshire/Cheshire, CT), sophomore Jennifer Haus (St. Mark's HS), and senior Amanda Stouffer (Owen J. Roberts/Spring City, PA) each won two individual events.

Pacing the Blue Hen men was junior Luke Schenck (Cathedral Prep/Edinboro, PA), who won two individual events. Senior Tom Maday (Great Mills/Lexington Park, MD) and sophomore Neumann Marlett (Belvidere/Belvidere, NJ) each had a hand in two Blue Hen victories.

Mainville won the one-meter dive (243.25 points) and three-meter dive (213.0) events while Haus won the 200 freestyle (1:56.11) and 500 freestyle (5:09.36), and Stouffer captured both the 50 freestyle (25.65) and 100 freestyle (55.66).

Also picking up wins for the Delaware women were sophomore Jenna Blongiewicz (Andover/Andover, MA) in the 200 individual medley (2:15.15), sophomore Kathryn Fryer (Severna Park/Severna Park, M D) in the 200 butterfly (2:15.19), senior Lisa Dillinger (Pallotti/Crofton, MD) in the 200 backstroke (2:12.05), and senior Sara Dyson (Liberty/Bethlehem, PA) in the 200 breaststroke (2:29.37). Dillinger teamed with Blongiewicz, Haus, and sophomore Laura Riley (Mt. de Sales/Baltimore, MD) to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:45.53.

Georgetown's only wins were in the 400 medley relay and in the 1,000 freestyle.

In the men's race, Schenck won the 500 and 1,000 freestyle double for the second straight meet. He swam the 500 in 4:51.23 and swam to a winning time of 9:54.45 in the 1,000 to lead the three-time America East champion Blue Hen men to the victory.

Maday won the 200 IM in 2:00.06 and teamed with Marlett, freshman Brian Salcetti (Landon/Potomac, MD), and sophomore Ian Miller (Dover/Dover, PA) to win the 400 medley relay. Marlett also won the 200 backstroke in 2:03.06. Also for the Hens, senior Brian Aston (Cheshire/Cheshire, CT) won the one-meter dive in 260.02, freshman David Troskey (William Penn HS) won the three-meter dive in 269.17, and sophomore Bryan Kahner (Jericho/Jericho, NY) captured the 200 butterfly in 2:03.79.

Georgetown won four events on the mens' side, including double winner Chris Lengle who won the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.

Both Delaware teams will return to action Jan. 22 to host America East foe Towson University at Rawstrom Pool.
