Day One Results

Places Third in 3-Meter Diving For 5th Place
Hens
NEWARK, DE -- The three-time
defending conference champion University of Delaware men and
the Northeastern University women took the team lead after
the first day of the America East Men's and Women's Swimming
and Diving Championships Friday at the University of
Delaware's Harry Rawstrom Pool.
Delaware, led by 200 individual medley
champion Tom Maday (Great Mills/Lexington Park, MD),
posted 248 points for the day, edging Drexel (221). Boston
University was third at 157 followed by New Hampshire (145),
Towson (126), Maine (79), and Vermont (57).
On the women's side, Northeastern, led by
three first place finishes, took the first day lead with 237
points to place ahead of runner-up Boston University (216).
Defending champion New Hampshire was third with 154 points
followed by Towson (152), Delaware (127), Drexel (100),
Maine (55), and Vermont (51).
The second day of the three-day event
will begin with preliminaries Saturday at 11 a.m. with the
finals slated for 6:30 p.m. The meet will conclude on
Sunday.
Delaware, which has won each of the last
three men's team titles, picked up just one victory as
Maday, a senior, won his sixth career America East
individual title by winning the 200 individual medley in
1:55.49. Also for the Blue Hens, Mike Gallaher
(Peabody/West Peabody, MA) was second in the 500 freestyle
(4:38.97), Luke Schenck (Cathedral Prep/Edinboro, PA)
was third in the 500 freestyle (4:43.00), Ian Miller
(Dover/Dover, PA) was third in the 50 freestyle (21.61), and
David Troskey (William Penn HS) was fourth in the
one-meter dive (455.80).
Also for the Hens, the 200 freestyle
relay team placed second (1:26.80), Jim Reichart
(Emmaus HS, Pa.) was sixth in the 500 freestyle
(4:44.48), Kevin Weisser (Franklin
Regional/Murrysville, PA) was seventh in the 500 freestyle
(4:44.93), Tim Wasiewski (Conestoga Valley/Lancaster,
PA) was seventh in the 200 individual medley (1:58.84),
Brian McGillen (St. Mark's HS) was sixth in the 50
freestyle (22.00), John Fernandes (A.I. duPont HS)
was eighth in the 50 freestyle (22.25), the 400 medley relay
team placed fifth (3:33.50), and Brian Aston
(Cheshire, CT HS) was sixth in the one-meter dive
(439.70).
Other men's champions were Drexel's 200
freestyle relay team (1:26.55), New Hampshire's 400 medley
relay team (3:29.88), Boston University's David Rozado in
the 500 freestyle (4:33.42), New Hampshire's Brian Lucey in
the 50 freestyle (21.24), and Drexel freshman Kevin Coogan
who won the one-meter diving with a conference and pool
record total fo 540.80 points. Drexel teammate Mike Savicky
was second in the one-meter dive with 526.70
points.
Northeastern won three races on the
women's side as the Huskies took the 200 freestyle relay
(1:37.05), Miriam Seul won the 50 freestyle (24.30), and
Katie Mailman won the three-meter diving with a pool record
total of 466.10 points. Also on the women's side, Boston
University's Corey Cooper won the 500 freestyle (5:03.91),
New Hampshire's Kim Latourelle led a three-way UNH sweep in
the 200 individual medley (2:07.32), and Boston University
captured the 400 medley relay (3:56.21).
Delaware's top women's finishers included
the 200 freestyle relay team placing fourth i 1:39.79,
Tanya Mainville (Cheshire, CT HS) was third in the
three-meter dive (429.60), Jennifer Haus (St. Mark's
HS) was fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:06.94), Amanda
Stouffer (O.J. Roberts/Spring City, PA) was ninth in the
50 freestyle (25.19), Jenna Blongiewicz (Andover, MA
HS) was 10th in the 200 IM (2:21.46), and the 400 medley
relay team placed fourth in 4:00.40.
