NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware women's soccer team lost its second consecutive conference game Friday night, falling 2-0 to Virginia Commonwealth at the UD Mini-Stadium.

Defender Myriam Bouchard and forward Jasmine Riley scored second-half goals to provide the winning margin for the Rams, who notched their fifth victory in six matches.

VCU piled up 11 corner kicks before intermission, when they out-shot Delaware 3-1 but couldn't bury one in the back of the net.

The Hens upped their intensity in the second half, as they controlled possession and dictated the game's pace most of the period. But in the 66th minute, they gave up a corner kick to VCU's Brittain Maas, who delivered a strike that Bouchard headed into the upper right corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.

Delaware continued to press the action in the final minutes, barely missing on at least three chances in the Rams' box.

Riley added a breakaway goal with just 23 seconds left to put the game out of reach.

Sophomore striker Caitlyn Germain led the Hens with two shots, while junior keeper E.J. Goldman recorded one save for UD, which fell to 5-5 (1-2 CAA) and has lost three of its last four matches.

Dana Rodgers (right), Melissa Kilker, Emily Sammis, and Kendall Lytwynec added shots for Delaware, which tallied four shots on goal - all in the second half - and limited the Rams to three.

Scott Grzenda's squad was shut out for the first time since a season-opening loss to powerhouse Virginia.

UD fell to 1-4-2 in the all-time series with VCU and lost at home for the first time this season.

The Hens return to action Sunday, when they host James Madison at 1 p.m.
