NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware women's soccer team, led by 18th-year head coach Scott Grzenda (right), has been rated the No. 117 team in America in the first NCAA Ratings Percentage Index rankings of the season.
The Hens (5-6, 1-3 CAA), who have lost three straight matches for the first time since 2000, lost a 3-2 decision to powerhouse James Madison - ranked No. 15 nationwide - on Sunday.
Seven Colonial Athletic Association teams are ranked among the country's top 100: No. 15 JMU, No. 37 William & Mary, No. 44 Hofstra, No. 62 UNC-Wilmington, No. 64 Virginia Commonwealth, No. 88 George Mason, and No. 99 Georgia State. The CAA has the eighth-best cumulative RPI among the 32 Division I conferences, while the ACC is rated the best league overall.
Penn State leads the RPI rankings, while Stanford, USC, Virginia, and Tennessee round out the top five. The state of California accounts for six of the top 25 teams, including four of the top 14.
