NEWARK, DE -- Two goals from sophomore striker Caitlyn Germain (right) weren't enough to boost the University of Delaware women to a win over CAA frontrunner James Madison, as the Dukes used two second-half goals to score a 3-2 win Sunday afternoon at the UD Mini-Stadium.

The Blue Hens (5-6, 1-3 CAA) lost their third consecutive match despite taking a 1-0 lead on JMU (10-1-1, 3-0-1 CAA) just five minutes into the first half, when Germain took a pass from senior midfielder Emily Sammis and blasted a high-arching shot into the net from 20 yards out. But the Dukes' Corky Julien needed only 21 seconds to pull her squad even. The teams setttled into a defensive battle until the halftime horn.

UD did its best to limit the explosive Dukes, ranked No. 3 in the Middle Atlantic Region in the latest NSCAA/adidas poll, but star striker Annie Lowry gave JMU its first lead in the 55th minute. The 6-foot-1 forward got behind the Hen defense, got her foot on a feed from Cate Tisinger, and beat UD keeper Annie Bevan to the upper left corner.

Lowry added another goal, her seventh of the season, just 16 minutes later, but the Hens wouldn't go quietly. At the 84:12 mark, Germain shook past a Madison defender and fired in her second goal from the top of the box.

Delaware, which fell to 3-4 in the all-time series with JMU, lost its third consecutive match after a 5-3 start to the season.

The Hens were out-shot, 13-7, but Bevan kept her team in contention with six saves.

Germain now has six goals on the year, good for the team lead, and moved into 10th on Delaware's all-time goals list with 13. She recorded the second two-goal game of her career and has scored four times over the last four matches.

The Blue Hens return to the field on Oct. 12, when they visit George Mason at 7 p.m.
