FAIRFAX, VA -- Blue Hen freshman Amy Pickard took a feed from senior Emily Sammis (at right) and scored the game-winning goal with just 37 seconds remaining as the University of Delaware women’s soccer team posted a 3-2 comeback victory at George Mason Friday night.

In the final minute of the match Pickard received a pass all alone from Sammis, dribbled past charging Patriots goalkeeper Kasey Davenport, and tucked the ball in the open net as Delaware improved to 6-6 overall and 2-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The goal was the sixth of the season for Pickard, tying her for the team lead with Caitlyn Germain.

Mason, which dropped to an identical 6-6 overall and 2-3 in the league, took a 2-1 lead into halftime before the Blue Hens rallied. Delaware tied the match with 39:04 remaining when Sammis struck a cross from the left, through the box past a diving Davenport to senior Kendall Lytwynec, who deposited the ball into the net for her second goal of the year. With the two second half helpers, Sammis now leads the Blue Hens with four assists this season.

Sammis opened the scoring 9:05 into the contest when she collected a cross by Pickard and scored her fourth goal of the year to give Delaware the early lead. However the Patriots tied the match at the 22:34 mark when L.J. Williams dribbled down the middle of the field and found Rachel Wiggins on the right wing for a goal to make it a 1-1 contest.

Mason then took the lead just 47 seconds before halftime as Hannah Sklar passed to Kelly Keelan, who hit a deep cross to Theresa DeLucca for a goal to make it a 2-1 game at the break.

Delaware goalkeeper E.J. Goldman made seven saves to pick up her second victory of the season for the Blue Hens, while Davenport stopped two shots in the Patriots goal. Mason held a 22-12 advantage in shots and a 9-4 edge in corner kicks.

The Blue Hens return to action on Sunday when Delaware travels to Towson for a 1 p.m. match with the Tigers.
