NEWARK, DE -- Freshman forward Amy Pickard (right) scored a 32nd-minute goal, her team-best eighth of the year, to give the Delaware women's soccer team a season-ending 1-0 victory over Drexel on Thursday night at the UD Mini-Stadium.

Delaware dominated possession early on and generated several scoring chances before Pickard put them ahead at the 31:10 mark. She settled a pass from sophomore striker Caitlyn Germain just outside the box and fired a shot that trickled into the back of the net after a deflection. Delaware maintained the lead through the half and turned up the heat after intermission, out-shooting the Dragons 8-1 in the second period. UD couldn’t find the net again - even when senior midfielder Emily Sammis was awarded a penalty kick in the 59th minute - but the Hens held on for the win.

Pickard, Sammis, and junior midfielder Kasie Shover led the Blue Hens (8-10-0, 4-7-0 CAA) with three shots each, while senior goalkeeper E.J. Goldman made two saves to secure her second shutout of the year.

Delaware took 14 shots on the night and held Drexel to just two, the fewest shots the Hens have allowed all season.

Drexel keeper Kaitlin Bond kept the Dragons (6-9-3, 2-7-2 CAA) in contention with nine saves.

Pickard’s eight goals are the most by a Blue Hen since 2003, when Fran Termini also collected eight scores.

The Hens, who finished a point short of qualifying for the CAA tournament, honored their five seniors - Sammis, Goldman, Lindsay James, Kendall Lytwynec, and Courtney Kimmel - before the match.
