WACO, TX -- The University of Delaware women's soccer team concluded its two-game tour of Texas with a 2-1, double-overtime loss at Baylor on Sunday afternoon.
Baylor forward Jessica Hutton netted the game-winner just 44 seconds into the second overtime after the Blue Hens threatened several times in the first extra frame.
After defender Megan Sherrell gave the Bears a 1-0 lead with a goal on a rebound midway through the first half, the teams traded possession in the midfield until freshman striker Amy Pickard (right) knotted the score in the 68th minute.
Pickard's goal was her fourth of the season, good for the team lead, and her third in as many games. She is the second Blue Hen to score in three consecutive matches this year, as senior midfielder Emily Sammis accomplished the feat earlier in the month.
The Hens took nine of their 10 shots after halftime, bombarding Baylor goalie Ashley Noah in the final minutes of regulation. Sophomore forward Caitlyn Germain anchored the UD attack with four shots, while Pickard added three.
The Bears (6-2-1) won their sixth straight game at home, while Delaware fell to 4-3 on the season. The match was the Hens' first ever against a Big 12 team.
Junior goalkeeper E.J. Goldman made four saves for Delaware, which was out-shot 13-10 but earned eight corner kicks to Baylor's five.
The Hens open their CAA season Friday evening at Old Dominion, which won the conference title last season and is ranked 12th in the Mid-Atlantic region by Soccer Buzz magazine, three spots ahead of Delaware.
