NEWARK, DE -- Senior goalkeeper Bonnie Mills (right) made a career-high nine saves while Lindsay Boyd scored her fifth goal in as many games in leading the University of Delaware women’s soccer team to a 1-1 tie with Yale University on Friday evening at Delaware Mini-Stadium.

Yale (0-2-1) took the lead only 11 minutes into the game when it scored its first goal of the season when Christina Huang beat Mills off of a cross pass from teammate Chrysti Howser. Yale had been shutout in its first two games by national powers Duke and North Carolina.

The Hens tied the score just over eight minutes into the second half. Lisa Parsons dribbled in and out of the Yale defense and then fed Boyd who beat Bulldog goalkeeper Susan Starr for her career-high fifth goal of the season.

Yale carried play throughout most of the game, outshooting the Hens 17-6. The Bulldogs also held a 10-3 advantage on corner kicks, but were unable to beat Mills after their first goal.

Yale nearly won in regulation, but Huang hit the right goal post with just under 30 seconds left in the second half. Yale also had the best chance in the two overtime periods, but with 50 seconds left Mills made a save on Maggie Westfall’s drive from 15 yards out.

The Hens (4-0-1) are unbeaten through five games for the first time since they got off to a program best 5-0 start in 1994. They will return to action on Sunday against Lehigh at 2 p.m. on Sunday in the conclusion of the Delaware Adidas Blue Hen Classic.
