HUNTINGTON, WV -- Blue Hen freshman Melissa Kilker (right) scored the first two goals of her career as the University of Delaware women’s soccer team remained unbeaten with a 5-0 win over Marshall Sunday afternoon on the second day of the Thundering Herd Nike Invitational.

Delaware, which improved to 4-0 with the victory, is off to its best start since the 1994 squad opened its season with five straight wins. Marshall dropped its second straight match while falling to 2-2 on the year.

Kilker opened the scoring with an unassisted goal 14:30 into the contest, and junior Lindsay James scored her first career goal at the 27:03 mark by finishing a cross from junior Kendall Lytwynec to give the Blue Hens a two-goal lead.

Sophomore Kasie Shover made it a 3-0 game with 25:46 remaining when she scored an unassisted goal, and senior Lindsay Boyd scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season by heading home a free kick from sophomore Dana Rodgers with 15:37 left. Kilker concluded the scoring with just 1:11 to play when she finished a long pass from Lytwynec.

Senior Bonnie Mills made four saves in the Delaware goal to post her third shutout of the season, while Liz Orton stopped 10 shots for the Thundering Herd.

Delaware, which held a 20-12 advantage in shots, scored the most goals in a match since a 6-0 victory over Howard on September 19, 2003.

The Blue Hens return to action on Friday when UD hosts the Delaware Blue Hen Adidas Classic. Lehigh faces Montana in the day’s first match at 5 p.m. at UD Mini-Stadium, while the Blue Hens take on Yale at 7:30 p.m.
