RICHMOND, VA -- University of Delaware freshman forward Melissa Kilker has been named the Colonial Athletic Association women’s soccer Rookie of the Week for games ending September 3, the CAA has announced.
Kilker (Morrisville, PA/Pennsbury HS) scored two goals and an assist for five points during the week, as the Blue Hens won both of their matches in the Nike Thundering Herd Invitational in Huntington, WV over the weekend.
Kilker (at right) posted an assist on Lindsay Boyd’s goal during Friday’s 2-0 win against Morehead State. She then recorded her first collegiate goal to open the scoring in Delaware’s 5-0 rout of tournament host Marshall. She also capped the day for the Hens with her second goal of the day with only 1:11 remaining.
For the season Kilker has two goals and three assists for seven points, ranking one point behind Boyd for the team lead. The Hens are 4-0 for the first time since 1994 when they started a program best 5-0.
Delaware will return to action this weekend when they take on Yale and Lehigh as the host of the Delaware Blue Hen Adidas Classic on Friday and Sunday at Delaware Mini-Stadium.
