HEMPSTEAD, NY -- Jill Lipari scored only 1:14 into the game and Erika Fuertes added a goal with less than six minutes remaining to lead the Hofstra University women’s soccer team past the University of Delaware, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon in a key Colonial Athletic Association match.
The Pride (9-8-1, 5-5 CAA) outshot Delaware 21-10 on the day. Bonnie Mills (right) made nine saves for the Blue Hens (8-7-3, 3-6-1 CAA).
The game was barely one minute old when Lipari took in Larkin Hargraves cross pass and beat Mills to the far post from six yards out to give the Pride a 1-0 lead.
The Pride carried play throughout the day, holding the wide advantage in shots, especially in the second half when they outshot the Blue Hens 12-4. Lipari led all players with five shots.
With just over five minutes remaining, the Pride sealed the game when Erika Fuertes scored on a rebound from a direct kick by Marie Curtin.
Kasie Shover and Kendall Lytwynec had three shots apiece for Delaware.
The Hens will return to action at Drexel at 7 p.m. on Friday in the regular season finale.
