Georgia State Uses Two Second-Half Goals To Down Delaware, 2-0

DATE: October 15, 2006

ATLANTA, GA -- Kay Harbrueger and Amber Collins-Cephers each scored a goal in the second half and Charlotte Vargo and Megan Macdonald made a total of four saves in leading the Georgia State University women’s soccer team past the University of Delaware, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon in Atlanta.

Bonnie Mills made five saves to keep the Hens (8-6-2, 3-5 CAA) in the game. Emily Sammis led Delaware with two shots.

The teams played to a scoreless draw in the first half, with Delaware holding a 4-3 edge in shots. However, Georgia State dominated play after the break, scoring twice and outshooting the Hens 14-2.

The Panthers (4-9-3, 1-5-1 CAA) got on the board seven minutes into the second half. Harbrueger broke free from the Delaware defense, sidestepped Mills and scored her fifth goal of the season.

With just under five minutes remaining, Collins-Cephers gave the Panthers a two-goal lead when she scored from five yards out.

Collins-Cephers led all players with seven shots for the game. Lauren Chavez and Harbrueger added four each.

Delaware went scoreless in both games this weekend, marking the first time it has been shutout in back-to-back games since the last two games of the 2004 season at James Madison and at George Mason.

The Hens will return to action on Friday when they host Northeastern in the final home match of the season. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Delaware Mini-Stadium.
