NEWARK, DE -- George Mason University’s Nilani Duarte scored the games only goal midway through the second half to lead the Patriots to a 1-0 victory over the University of Delaware women’s soccer team on Friday evening at Delaware Mini-Stadium.
Kasey Davenport made two saves for her third shutout of the season for the Patriots (5-7-1, 2-3 CAA). Bonnie Mills made four saves for the Hens (7-4-1, 2-3 CAA), while Kasie Shover (right) posted a game-high three shots.
Duarte scored the only goal of the game off of a rebound from a shot by Jessie Hart. Hart’s shot hit the crossbar and went directly to Duarte, who beat Mills from close range for the game-winner.
Delaware’s best chance to score came around five minutes before the Mason goal. Freshman Melissa Kilker was set up for a one-touch shot that beat Davenport, but a Mason defender made the save before clearing the ball.
The Hens were outshot 7-5 despite holding a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Hens will return to action on Sunday when they host Towson at 2 p.m.
