WEST POINT, NY -- The University of Delaware women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season in a 4-2 decision against Fairfield University on Friday evening at the BAE Systems Classic hosted by Army.
Melissa Kilker and Kendall Lytwyenec (right) scored for the Hens, who were off to the best start in program history.
Delaware (5-1-1) took the lead only 3:34 into the contest when Kilker took a cross pass from Alli D’Amico and put home her third goal of the season. Fairfield answered back less than three minutes later when Ahna Johnson scored off of a corner kick to pull the Stags even.
Lytwynec’s goal 20 minutes later gave the Hens their second lead of the night, but Fairfield (1-3-2) pulled even on a penalty kick goal by MT Church just 36 seconds before halftime.
The Stags then took the first lead when Casey Frobey scored 1:37 into the second half. Frobey added her second goal 15 minutes into the half to provide the final margin.
Bonnie Mills made four saves for the Hens, while Brett Maron also made four saves in earning the win for Fairfield.
The Hens will return to action on Sunday when they take on Air Force at 11 a.m. in the second round of the Army Tournament.
