VIRGINIA BEACH, VA -- University of Delaware senior defender Lauren Petchel and senior goalkeeper Bonnie Mills were named to the Colonial Athletic Association women’s soccer all-conference second team, the CAA announced at its annual awards banquet on Wednesday evening in Virginia Beach.
Petchel (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) earned second-team All-CAA honors for the second consecutive season after anchoring a defensive backfield that allowed only 1.20 goals per game. In 18 games, including 17 starts, Petchel (right-top) recorded eight shots and scored her second career goal on a penalty kick against conference regular-season champion William & Mary.
Mills (Bear, DE/Caravel Academy) played every minute of every game until the second half in the Hens’ season finale at Drexel. Mills (right- bottom) posted a 1.18 goals allowed average and an .818 save percentage and six shutouts. Her 99 saves were fourth most in a single-season and her 173 career saves place her fifth on the all-time list.
Delaware finished the season 8-8-3 overall and 3-7-1 in CAA play. This year marked the seventh consecutive .500 or better season for the Blue Hens.
