NEWARK, DE-- The Virginia Commonwealth women’s soccer team scored the only goal of the game halfway through the first half on its way to a 1-0 victory over Delaware in Colonial Athletic association play on Friday night at Delaware Mini-Stadium.

Sophomore Hayley Morwood took a feed from Leigh Anthony and was able to beat Delaware goalkeeper Lindsey Shover (right) inside the left post for her second goal of the season.

The Hens almost tied the game less than five minutes later when Shannon Alger redirected a corner kick over the cross bar. In the second half Caitlyn Germain had two chances to tie the game, but each time her shots were turned away by VCU goalkeeper Lauren Hardison.

Hardison made four saves for the shutout, including one on Delaware midfielder Melissa Kunisky with only 45 seconds remaining in the game. The match marked the seventh consecutive win for the Rams (8-3-3, 6-0). Shover (right) posted two saves for Delaware (6-5-2, 3-3 CAA).

The Hens will return to action this Sunday when they host James Madison for a CAA matchup with the Dukes. Game time from Newark is 1 p.m.
