TOWSON, MD -- The University of Delaware women’s soccer team earned a hard-fought tie with Towson, 1-1, in a Colonial Athletic Association match on Sunday afternoon at Towson.
Towson took the lead with just over five minutes left in the first half, when Kristin McHugh scored off of a throw-in by Shannon Jackson. The throw-in resulted in a scramble in front of the net, from which McHugh emerged and put home the goal.
Delaware responded 12 minutes into the second half. Alli D’Amico scored her third goal of the season off of a cross from Caitlyn Germain. With the assist, Germain assumed the team lead with eight points, after having been tied with Shelby Lawrence for several games. With the tie, the Hens remain in the top half of the conference standings with a record of 8-5-3, 5-3-1 CAA.
Delaware senior goalie Lindsey Shover made a season-high 10 saves to keep the Hens in the game. Brandi Daniels made five saves for the Tigers (8-6-2, 3-5-1 CAA).
The game marked the first time in the 13 match history between the two teams that the game ended in a tie.
Delaware will return to action this Thursday when it returns home a 7 p.m. match with UNC Wilmington.
